Question 649: Can a Sayyid boy marry non-Sayyid girl? Thanks in advance.

Answer 649: According to all maraja (May Allah grant them long life), it is permissible for a Sayyid man/woman to marry a non-Sayyid man/woman[1], however it is better for a Sayyid man/woman to marry a Sayyid man or woman.[2]

Islam has presented highly valuable guidelines and models for us, and it has explained the characteristics and features of a good spouse and a healthy marriage as a few of them are briefly enumerated below:

Having real faith and adherence to Islamic moral codes, Having real faith and adherence to Islamic moral codes, Honesty and truthfulness, Genealogical originality, Avoiding heavy dowry, Cultural, financial, family, scientific and religious equality of man and woman.[3]
